Im seriously surprised at the lack of videos about this on youtube from any of the scientific channels.
Theres tons of stuff on Nasa and the ISS but never anything about what the Japanese and other nations are doing! Its a great shame because our neighbors are coming up with some great technology we don't hear about.

I may post more scientific news like this every once in a while when I take a break from the game.

"Japan launched a 'space yacht' today that will travel to Venus propelled only by sunlight.

A rocket carrying the experimental 'Ikaros' blasted off for its six-month mission from a space centre in Kagoshima, southern Japan.

The spacecraft will head towards Venus powered only by solar particles bouncing off its kite-shaped sails.

Once in space the short cylindrical pod will separate from the rocket spinning up to 20 times a minute. This will help it to unfold its flexible 46ft sail, which is thinner than a human hair."

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1280154/Japanese-space-yacht-Ikaros-launches-Venus-mission.html?ITO=1490#ixzz0oZXmy9R4

gordon13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01126879422345742458noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5497391240881920764.post-11423162263007719412010-05-21T06:51:00.000-07:002010-05-21T06:56:11.730-07:002010-05-21T06:56:11.730-07:00Hammering out a huge volume of models...This is a short post because I've been very busy hammering out model after model before I start putting them ingame. I will be posting renders in my next post.
The thing that takes up the most time is the texturing and rigging. Texturing specifically because I'm trying to find good colour schemes that will differentiate races, and be pleasing to look at.

More to come....

gordon13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01126879422345742458noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5497391240881920764.post-56692343909141444392010-05-18T10:56:00.000-07:002010-05-18T17:52:23.827-07:002010-05-18T17:52:23.827-07:00What makes an RTS fun to play? When it comes to real time strategy games, what I enjoy is being able to control different points on a map, and making sure my forces are well equiped to deal with unexpected assaults.
The way Im thinking of building this game, each race (Im thinking there will be 3) needs to feel different. To achieve this each race would be played according to its strengths and weaknesses, which would vary depending on upgrades. This will ensure players are able to customize their army for their own style of play.

I love Scifi, technology and anything to do with space so naturally my RTS will be based around those genres.

The Races:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Humans- Technologically advanced (spaceships, mechs, normal soldiers etc)

Main advantages- Very resistant vehicles and high firepower.

Disadvantages- Slow units, low unit spawn rate, weak standard units

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shamans- Low technological level (They make the use of Beasts and wood/stone for buildings and vehicles)

Advantages- Medium unit spawn rate. fast unit movement, able to jump around and dodge bullets and enemies. Very good at melee combat

Disadvantages- Relatively weak against bullets.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Teraknids- No technology (make use of their natural defenses and aptitudes. They are ruled by a queen which they need to protect)

Main advantages- Fast gestation rate. They spawn much more quickly than other races and they make use of their numbers to over power their enemies. Use of cannon fodders recommended! medium movement speed. Resistant against melee.

Disadvantages- weak against bullets

Thats all I got right now!

More to come....

gordon13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01126879422345742458noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5497391240881920764.post-52425711581152915162010-05-17T17:37:00.000-07:002010-05-21T16:36:44.366-07:002010-05-21T16:36:44.366-07:00An RTS is bornFrom the moment I found the Neoaxis website I knew I would be designing an RTS. Inspired by Starcraft as well as Dawn of War, I planned to lock myself away for a few months, and got to work.
These are the chronicles of a lowly CG "artist" trying to bring his imagination to life.

Having the past decade of on-and-off experience in Modeling and Texturing the first step was to download and try out this engine(Neoaxis). The engine is written in C#, and luckily for me, thats the only language I have experience in! Yes, I have done a little coding in the past. My experience is entirely in XNA Game studio where I had tried my hand at making games but always ended up hitting a brick wall. In the past 2 years or so I was part of a small XNA indie design team that has released 3 games on the
The games we released were RetroOne, RetroOne part2 and Adventures of Sid where I did the graphics in the first two games and part of the third.
But enough of me..

Neoaxis comes with demo code and working game samples which makes it very easy to get started and have a working prototype within a few hours.
Now that I knew I actually could use the engine it was time to start the actually thinking about the game and its features!

more to come......

gordon13http://www.blogger.com/profile/01126879422345742458noreply@blogger.com0
